1961 – 2011
Avedis Porpossian, born on October 23rd, 1961 a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a friend and unger left us all suddenly on April 14th, 2011.
Avo was born in Beirut, Lebanon and grew up in Boorj Hamoud where he served the Armenian community through the dangerous environments of the Lebanese civil war. In Bourj Hamoud he met and married the love of his life Sona Bostajian in December 1986. Soon after their marriage Sona gave birth to their first son Hagop and the family later moved to Toronto. Soon after their move, Sona gave birth to their second child, Zani Porpossian. For 22 years they lived in Toronto and were very active members in the Toronto Armenian community; participating in numerous organizations and planning multiple events. Avo ensured that his kids were raised within a traditional Armenian home while still taking advantage of all the opportunities Canadian society had to offer. As a founding member of the annual Toronto ACC Summerfest and leader of other Armenian organizations, he taught his children the importance volunteering and being an active community member.
Although Avo spent a lot of time within the Armenian Community Centre, possibly his greatest quality was being a family man. He valued the relationships with all his family members and was able to create amazing memories with his wife, kids, niece, nephews, in laws etc. He was a kind man that always lent out a helping hand even when sometimes he himself needed that hand the most.
Tragically on April 14, 2011 he was taken away from his family to move on to a better place. He will always be loved, missed and most of all remembered.
